What to Plant in September

Bush Beans -

With the temperatures cooling down again we can start planting bush beans again. These guys take about 60 day to mature and if you plant them in early September that should give you enough time to get a bean harvest by halloween. Bush Beans should be directly sowed and kept plenty moist while they are trying to germinate. A few varieties we offer are “Top Crop Bush” “Blue Lake 274” and “Stringless Bush Bean”.

Fall Herbs -

Some herbs you can keep in the garden this time of year would be chives, dill, parsley, rosemary and cilantro.

The more attention and TLC you can give to these herbs while they are adjusting to the heat, the better. Their yields will directly reflect your efforts. You can start these herbs from seed or plant as long as they have proper protection.

Greens -

September is the time of year to get all of your greens in, you can also throw out some green peas, they don’t usually mind the cooler temps. Some greens you can plant are lettuces, cabbage, broccoli, collards and mustard. You should directly sow these seeds to avoid as much stress as possible. Broccoli will be the exception and should be transplanted.
